Rock climbing and canyoneering experiences on tap by Moab Adventure Center showcase in new video.
Think of this as “know before you go” even-if-you-haven’t-really-decided-to-go advantage! A newly released 20-minute YouTube video from Moab Adventure Center called 5 Perfect Days in Moab shows how travelers can combine adrenaline, scenery and family bonding into a single unforgettable trip. Narrated by Kam and Amy Wixom—long-time Moab travelers and parents—it blends cinematic footage with personal storytelling to reveal how rafting, hiking, canyoneering, off-roading and national park tours can fit into just five days. “Moab isn’t just a place you visit—it’s a place that changes you,” says Amy in the video. “When you rappel off a sandstone cliff or share a raft with your kids, you learn things about yourself and your family that you’ll carry forever.” The format is editor- and traveler-friendly: a 20-minute video that can be easily embedded, shared, or used as a ready-made Moab itinerary.

BEST FOODIE CITIES IN AMERICA
October 16 is World Food Day and personal finance company WalletHub surveyed more than 180 of the largest U.S cities for 28 key metrics, to see how rising restaurant prices may impact dining out. The data set ranges from affordability and accessibility of high-quality restaurants to food festivals per capita to craft breweries and wineries per capita. WalletHub interviewed many experts to determine why costs are rising and what can be done to dine well without going broke. Chip Lupo, WalletHub Analyst, noted that, “In the best foodie cities, including Miami, FL, Portland, OR, and San Francisco, CA, there are tons of unique culinary experiences to try, from food trucks to specialty-food stores to, in some cities, Michelin-starred restaurants. The top cities cater not just to people who enjoy dining out, but also to foodies who enjoy putting their own skills to the test by exploring new flavors in their own kitchens. In addition, these cities make delicious dining affordable for residents and visitors alike.” Robert Paul Jones, Ph.D. – Chairperson, Hospitality and Retail Management, Texas Tech University, provides options to reduce costs. “With the James Beard Foundation now awarding sandwich shops and taco trucks, even casual cuisine can be difficult and expensive. There are two main strategies for foodies to try when looking to score the latest and hottest food trends on a budget. The first is to see if the restaurant you are looking for offers lunch or brunch…Lunch menus generally offer slightly smaller portions and usually significantly lower prices. The second option if you are with a companion is to split portions.” While large portions are typical, “Think about maybe ordering a couple of appetizers, and one entrée and one dessert. You will generally have more than enough food and a considerably lower final bill.” What restaurant trends do the experts see? According to Adam Roy, MS, CEC, CCE, CHE, Professor, Michigan State University, “I see some splurging one night of the week but staying home other days. …Demands are picking up and if the food is not executed properly, restaurants should be hearing more about it or notice their patronage slip. QR code menu ordering/paying, surcharges, and credit card usage fees, are some negatives in my mind. Most operations are bringing back the human element after many years of reductions in interactions. Smaller portions but multiple tasting options are back…More specials of the day and chalkboards are a big talking point I see nowadays. Food trucks are getting more experimental with a la carte dining and table service.” So, how did U.S. rate? The top 20 Foodie Cities, begins with Miami, FL and continues to Portland, OR; San Francisco, CA; Seattle, WA; Orlando, FL; Austin, TX; Tampa, FL; Las Vegas, NV; Sacramento, CA; San Diego, CA; Atlanta, GA; Denver, CO; Pittsburgh, PA; St. Louis, MO; Houston, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Milwaukee, WI; Richmond, VA; Cincinnati, OH, and finally Washington, DC.

The Penrose Room. Photo by Chad Chisholm
The Penrose Room showcases that you can go “home” again by its re-introduction at The Broadmoor (Colorado Springs, CO) Named in honor of The Broadmoor’s visionary founders, Spencer and Julie Penrose, who imbued their adventurous spirit and global travels into the sophistication for which the restaurant and hotel are known. They originally opened the Broadmoor hotel in 1918 but it wasn’t until 1962 on New Year’s Eve that the original Penrose Room was opened. In 2008, it became the first Colorado restaurant to earn a Forbes Five-Star rating, maintaining this distinction for 13 consecutive years. As a nod to Julie Penrose’s love for collecting fine China, The Broadmoor has partnered with renowned Italian porcelain house Ginori 1735 to create an exclusive, custom-designed collection available only to guests dining at The Penrose Room. The collaboration is a luxurious, tableware collection, complementing the restaurant’s refined aesthetic and storied heritage, while also honoring the celebrated craftsmanship of Ginori’s iconic Oriente Italiano collection. Perched atop The Broadmoor’s South Tower, The Penrose Room offers sweeping panoramic views of Cheyenne Mountain. The newly reimaged space features The Penrose Room Lounge, whiskey room, flexible main dining area, and a speakeasy called The Polo Club at The Penrose Room. A palette of gold, jade, and copper warm the interiors. Executive Chef Justin Miller, a member of The Broadmoor family for over 25 years, leads the culinary direction, blending global influences with a fresh take on classic menu items. Having previously managed operations in The Penrose Room from 1986-1998, General Manager Joseph Freyre returns to The Broadmoor to lead the restaurant with his signature elegance and hospitality. With a deep understanding of The Broadmoor’s standard, Chef de Cuisine Bethany Fahey joins the team. Guests can expect tableside experiences of signature dishes such as Pio Tosini Prosciutto di Parma, The Penrose Caesar Salad, Beef Wellington, and Flambeed Baked Alaska. The menu also features a dedicated Sushi & Raw Bar menu, alongside standout dishes such as Agnolotti en Brodo, Brioche Shrimp Toast, Japanese White Miso Glazed Pacific Halibut, Colorado Lamb Loin with Za’atar and Pistachio Crust, Lobster Macaroni Gratinée, etc. There are decadent desserts, tableside martinis and an extensive collection of creative libations such as the Clover Club with Breckenridge Gin, Vermouth di Torino Extra Dry, Lemon, and Raspberry and the Matcha Whiskey featuring Japanese Whiskey, Lemon Juice, Honey, Matcha Powder, Soda, as well as a worldly wine list.
