WALLETHUB DENOTES BEST WINTER TRAVEL DESTINATIONS
Personal finance website WalletHub’s latest survey touts the best winter holiday travel destinations in America. Focusing on cost and convenience rather than scenic beauty, WalletHub compared nearly 70 of the largest U.S. metro areas grouped by warm and cold weather. Each destination was analyzed based on 37 key metrics, primarily the expense and hassle of traveling to each location but also on other indicators, such as weather forecasts, safety and variety of activities. One of the aspects I enjoy most about WalletHub’s surveys is the analysis provided. It isn’t just a list of the results. For instance, they say if you’re looking to bundle up, Albuquerque, NM, has the lowest price for a three-star hotel room, $52, which is two times lower than Worcester, MA, the city with the highest at $104. For warmer climates, Pensacola, FL, has the lowest price for a three-star hotel room, $40, which is 4.5 times lower than Honolulu, HI, the city with the highest at $178. Eating great food is one of my favorite aspects of travel. Unsurprisingly, New York, NY has the most per capita of cold destinations and San Francisco, CA has the most for warmer destinations. The reading is fascinating. Meanwhile, from 1 to 10, here are the top cold destinations: Chicago, IL; Washington DC; Atlanta, GA; Philadelphia, PA; Denver, CO; Boston, MA; St. Louis, MO; Cincinnati, OH; New York, NY; and Portland, OR. For warmer destinations: Austin, TX; Dallas, TX; San Diego, CA; Las Vegas, NV; Tampa, FL; Houston, TX; San Antonio, TX; Charleston, SC; Phoenix, AZ and Orlando, FL.

LOUISVILLE TOASTS TO SPIRIT AND COCKTAIL WRITERS
It is rare for me to write about conventions, but as a writer who frequently reviews wines and wineries, I have a personal interest in this topic, and maybe you do as well. Louisville (KY)-based Copper & Kings American Brandy Co. and independent bookseller, Carmichael’s Bookstore, have combined forces to host Bookstock, a gathering of spirits and cocktail writers on Dec.6-7 in the heart of America’s distilling capital. Saturday, there’s a book signing fair, with additional Spirited Conversations. Copper & Kings Co-Founder Joe Heron credits writers who have helped “raise the libations bar and discourse for spirits and cocktails in North America.” Participating authors are Frank Caiafa, Jeff Cioletti, Paul Clarke, Wayne Curtis, Aaron Goldfarb, Davin De Kergommeaux, John McCarthy, Jim Meehan, Fred Minnick, Kara Newman, Robin Robinson, Noah Rothbaum, Amanda Schuster, Robert Simonson and David Wondrich.

DROP BY DROP PROJECTS CHAMPION WATER SOLUTIONS
Clean the World Foundation in partnership with Las Vegas Sands are seeking water projects in Las Vegas, Macao and Singapore, with the end goal of water conservation. Here’s how it works: water savings from partner’s conservation programs are converted into funding for the Drop by Drop Project. That money is then awarded to local water champions to increase local water resiliency, reinvigorate ecosystems, incubate new water solutions, and engage the community.
